We offer different classes and programs, but we also help with your personal goals, like learning how to send an email, filling out a job application, reading a note from your child's school, and so much more!

FOUNDATIONAL READING AND MATH
Do you want to get better at reading or math? We can help!
At the Literacy Council, we work with you one-on-one to help you:
- Learn letters, sounds, and words
- Read signs, forms, and books
- Add, subtract, and use numbers
- Use reading and math in everyday life
We start at your level and move at your pace!
WORKFORCE PREP
Are you looking for a better job or thinking about starting a new career? We can help!
At the Literacy Council, we offer one-on-one help with:
- Building your resume
- Getting ready for job interviews
- Career planning and support
We also help you prepare for the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) or your WAGE certification, certifications that show employers you have the skills they’re looking for.
GED PREP/ADULT EDUCATION
Do you need help studying for the GED exam? We are here for you.
Our Adult Basic Education program offers:
- Pre-GED help to get you ready for the GED test
- Essential Ed lessons that are easy to follow
- In-person OR online learning options
You can go at your own speed. Our teachers and tutors will support you every step of the way.

VITA Tax Preparation
Our VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program offers free tax preparation help for individuals and families who qualify. Trained, IRS-certified volunteers help file basic tax returns accurately and confidentially. This service helps individuals and families understand their taxes, build financial confidence, and reduce barriers to filing. By offering free, trusted assistance, we help people avoid costly fees and mistakes while supporting greater financial stability. Appointments are required.
Community Book Study
Our community book studies are thoughtfully designed, discussion-based classes that invite participants to read more deeply and engage with ideas in a meaningful way. While the studies are more advanced and best suited for those comfortable with basic reading, all are welcome in this inclusive, respectful space. Participants strengthen comprehension, critical thinking, and conversation skills that carry over into everyday life, work, and community involvement. Sessions are intentionally led by literature experts Ginger Jones, Ph.D., and Beth Carlton, M.L.S., who guide rich, accessible discussions and ensure every voice is heard.
LUNCH and LEARN
Each month, the Literacy Council celebrates students at our Lunch and Learn meeting. Come join us for a little bit of lunch and a whole lot of learning! We also invite members of our community to serve as speakers on topics that may be of interest to our adult learners. Everyone is welcome to attend.
