The Literacy Council of Bowie and Miller Counties earned three of the five awards given for excellence in adult literacy by the Adult Learning Alliance in Arkansas earlier this year. The three awards included Student of the Year, Business Partner of the Year, and Leader of the Year. Award recipients were honored at the Governor's Mansion in Little Rock.
Despite challenging circumstances, Student of the Year, Ms. Jackie Grissom, has worked hard at the Literacy Council for more than a year in order to make progress toward her goals.
In addition to her state award, Ms. Grissom also received the Against All Odds Award from the Literacy Council and was named the Student of the Month for January. Not only does she work hard to reach her goals, but she wants others to do the same and serves as a peer mentor at the Literacy Council.
Additionally, our partnership with Donnie Reid and the We Are Washington campus was awarded the Business Partner of the Year. This partnership allowed the Literacy Council to expand to a second location on the Arkansas-side of Texarkana.
Finally, Leader of the Year was awarded to Paul Chapman, Executive Director of Restore Hope Arkansas, the parent organization of the 100 Families Alliance. His dedication to men and women in crisis has made a tremendous impact on the lives of many Arkansans, including those served by 100 Families in Texarkana.
